Marine Slipway Carriage System and Control Tower Successfully Delivered
Qualter Hall has successfully delivered a bespoke Slipway Carriage System to a busy Scottish Harbour facility. The cradle system has been designed to remove vessels with a length up to 40m long and width up to 10m and vessel weight up to 570 tonnes. The system is adaptable to cater for variations in length and vessel width, with the bilge arms being hydraulically operated with Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) sited in the control tower.
The scope of supply included the manufacture (fabricate, machine, trial assemble & FAT test), delivery, installation and commissioning of a side slipway cradle system, including tower and control cab to facilitate the refurbishment of an existing slipway. This involved the manufacturing of complex cradles assemblies to exacting tolerances, and providing a robust Hydraulic supply and control system (including remote control panel) that was integrated with the existing main winch and side slip winches.
All new equipment was fully assembled and Factory Acceptance Tested (FAT) at Qualter Hall's facility in Barnsley, prior to installation on site, where full functional testing was carried out to prove key modes of operation. This reduces the overall project risk, prior to critical path installation works at the harbour site, reducing the overall slipway down-time.
Works commenced on site in August 2019, using Qualter Hall site personnel to carry out the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, including Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and the successful live boat trial was completed in September 2019 and to schedule, followed by formal training of the client's operational and maintenance personnel.
